Pro-Life

Culturally, I wonder if anyone else has seen the shift I have seen over the last ten years or so. Watch the media and other cultural outlets closely, they are quickly reframing the debate over abortion to a place where we don't want it to end up. Now, abortionists are referred to as "Pro Abortion Rights" and we are referred to as "Abortion Rights opponents". Very quickly we will find ourselves as people who are supposedly trying to surpress human rights rather than trying to protect the most innocent human beings' rights. I truly believe this battle of terminology could be one of the most important over the next three years, and we need to come up with some kind of solution fast to figure out how to change the way this is worded quickly.

I'm with you on your comments left on my site. Slowly shifting from one side to the other, and this is a great lead-in to see just how far people will stand up for their beliefs and what they consider to be their authority. I appreciate your comments; I'm sure they'll contribute nicely to the conversations.

Thanks Mel, I really appreciate it. I try to leave my two cents without trying to get argumentative or come off sounding like I am putting down anyone else's beliefs, but sometimes you can do that without really trying just because you assume something to be true and it seems simple in your mind. I've been on both sides of the issue, so I know how clear it can seem on both sides when that is what you believe, which really leads me to the position I take now...

Yes. To have a very high view of Sacred Scripture will not change in my worldview....to allow a c/Church to add to that influence is increasing in my understanding of faith.

The question came during a Sunday School class that just about sent me running. The problem I had was the comment the teacher made about sola Scriptura and the necessity to take Romans 13 at face value....how that affects how we see the American Revolution and so many other things. I'm going to mention some of this in the next blog. It had me livid for days. I wonder how he interprets John 6.

I would say that prior to being Catholic, the Book of Romans was so confusing to me that I just took the word of other people. This is the year of St Paul in the Catholic Church, so I promised myself to read all of his writings before the end of the year. I read Romans and it fit so well that it gave me absolutely no trouble....but again that brings us to the "solas"

This could turn into a whole new blog series about the book of Romans. I've always believed and have taught so many that the Holy Spirit is all we need to interpret written Scripture. After all, He dwells within us and He wrote it so why isn't that enough. But then you get so many differing results. So we're left with who's right.

I've been working through some of the Psalms but have been wondering what else I could focus on. The writings of Paul seem reasonable so maybe that's where I'll head next. I love reading how he teaches the fledgling churches about how they should live and about the grace of God.

It's not easy when the foundation of the lifelong faith I've always had starts to shift underneath me. I hear the other side of the banks is truly safe.

I attended a beautiful Pentecost vigil this evening. There aren't many words to express my emotions and prayers at this time, but He knows them all. God bless.
